Every year, Galeries Lafayette partners with a famous designer to create a Christmas tree that hangs in the dome of the building and this year has not disappointed either.

Overview Of Galeries Lafayette At Christmas

Opened in 1894, this Parisian department store has become a symbol of French style and luxury where you’ll find fashion brands like Louis Vitton, Dior, Prada, Celine, and so many others.

While it’s interesting to visit any time of the year for shopping and window shopping, it gets magical at Christmas with its stunning tree. 

A tradition that started in 1976, each year brings a new theme that is more grand than the previous — (in most cases…)

And at every top of the hour for 5 minutes, the tree lights up creating an even more magical and romantic ambiance.

You can even walk on the suspended glass to get an up-close view of the tree! You’ll however need to book your slot on the Galeries Lafayette website.

While the tree is the highlight of any visit, you’ll find several decorations around the store that follow the same theme. I recommend just walking around to take it all in!

Shopping At Galeries Lafayette 

While here, you can also shop for some goodies from the usual shops or the Christmas-centric pop-up stores. 

If you have kids, they have a section dedicated to them where you can buy Christmas gifts, toys, clothes, and more. 

Continue to the upper levels and you’ll find another section with souvenirs, French snacks, Paris-themed items, and more.

And let’s not forget the food section where you’ll find everything from traditional French pastries, snacks, and pâtes to festive treats.

Christmas Lights on Boulevard Haussmann

As night falls, Boulevard Haussmann transforms into a winter wonderland. The street is lined with thousands of twinkling lights. There is even another Christmas tree in the square to admire. 

Another place to take in the lights of the Boulevard is by climbing to the rooftop terrace on the 8th floor.

The view is breathtaking, especially with the iconic Eiffel Tower in the distance. There is even a “Paris Mon Amour” sign that you can take photos with.

Another place you can’t skip while here is the Christmas window displays. Both the young and old will appreciate these window displays that not only show off the creativity of the designer but also a touch of Christmas.

Just like the tree, the theme of the displays also changes yearly and it only gets more creative with each passing year. You can easily spend 30 minutes to go through all of them.

And if you walk towards the Galeries Lafayette Men’s store, you’ll find more lights! If you’re hungry, this is the perfect place to grab a crepe from the creperie stand nearby.
