How to take a train from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris.

Taking a train from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris is one of the cheapest ways to get to the center of Paris.

It is perfect if you are traveling on a budget, and is the best option to get a taste of the French rail network and experience the local life!

The airport is served by the RER B, also called the suburban train, as well as the high-speed train “TGV” for long-distance destinations.

To reach Paris, take the RER B which connects the airport to the center of Paris in 25 to 50 minutes (depending on your exact destination in Paris).

The Parisian stations serviced by the RER B are Gare du Nord, Châtelet les Halles, Saint Michel Notre Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert-Rochereau and Cité Universitaire.

The main advantage of taking RER B is that it connects with the Parisian subway. Fast and very efficient, it’s a convenient way to get anywhere in the French capital, plus the metro connection is included in the price of the RER B ticket!

One of the fun facts about France is that it has the busiest train station in Europe, Gare de Nord.
Gare de Nord, one of the stations where RER B stops.

Where to take the train from CDG to Paris

There are two departure stations at CDG; one at Terminal 1 and the other at Terminal 2.

Taking the RER B from the airport is very easy as you just have to follow the direction signs “Paris by train” from terminals 1 & 2. The signs have been recently redesigned and are quite clear and easy to follow.

If you arrive at terminal 1, you can take the free CDGVAL shuttle to the train station, but if you arrive at terminal 2, you can either walk, take the moving walkway, or hop onto the free shuttle. You should also note that terminal 2 is divided into sub-terminals (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F) but you can easily walk from one to another.

However, if you land at Terminal 3, you can either take the free airport shuttle (convenient if you have a lot of luggage) or walk to one of the other two terminals.

How often does the train from CDG to Paris run?

RER B trains leave every 10 to 20 minutes depending on the time of day and they run from 4:50 am to 11:50 pm every day.

Price and where to buy the train tickets

The price of the ticket may vary between 10€ and 12€. You can buy your ticket at the ticket booth at the entrance of the station or at the train station’s information center. Just remember to change the language of the ticket booth if it is in French!

Alternatively, you can purchase the Navigo Easy Pass from the information center of the station which you can later just top up easily for the rest of your stay in Paris.

A few warnings for a peaceful journey

Paris may be a dream, but as in every big city in the world, the risk of pickpocketing exists, so if you’re taking the train, keep your belongings next to you at all times and be aware of your surroundings.

Also, once you get off your plane, before rushing to the station, remember to check the traffic status of the RER B because occasionally, the RER experiences long delays and this can easily ruin your first day in Paris!

I recommend using the amazing CityMapper app or the official SNCFConnect app to check the traffic status to ensure that your train is on schedule.

If you have a lot of luggage, it would be wise to choose another means of transportation (car or bus) to avoid carrying your heavy luggage up and down the stairs of the train stations.

Pros of taking the train from CDG to Paris

  • It is one of the cheapest ways to get from Charles de Gaulle to Paris.

  • The train goes at specific times, so there may be quite a bit of waiting time.

  • The train runs at specific hours, so you can easily miss it if your flight arrives outside those hours.

3. How to Get from CDG to Paris by Parisian Taxi

How to get to Paris from CDG by taxi.

Although more expensive than the train, taking a taxi from CDG to Paris is more comfortable and convenient, especially if you have a bunch of suitcases to carry around!

If you want to find a taxi, the easiest way is to follow the “TAXI” signs at the airport and you’ll quickly reach one of the many Taxi-stations available at every terminal.

If someone approaches you to offer you a ride inside the airport, ignore them! Official Parisian Taxis can only be taken at the Taxis station and nowhere else!

Access to these zones is controlled and exclusively available to official cabs to prevent unpleasant surprises. Some of the official companies include Taxi G7, Alpha taxi, and.

All Parisian cabs are equipped with credit card payment terminals, but be sure to carry some cash if the terminal is broken.

The main problem with this type of transportation is the uncertainties of road traffic! Travel time can be considerably longer if you are stuck in traffic.

Allow 30 minutes to reach the center of Paris if the traffic is fluid, but this time can be easily doubled or tripled if traffic is completely jammed!

Remember to check the time your plane will be landing and avoid the rush hour if possible!

  • It’s very convenient, especially if you have lots of luggage.

  • You can take a taxi at any time regardless of when your flight arrives. No preset operating hours like with the train.

  • If budget is an issue, it’s not the cheapest way to get from Charles de Gaulle to Paris.

4. How to Get from CDG to Paris by Uber

How to get from CDG to Paris by Uber

Usually cheaper than the official taxi, Transport Vehicle with Driver (VTC) is an alternative just as viable and convenient.

There are many transportation companies available in France but the most famous are of course Uber, but also FreeNow, Bolt, Heetch, and Lyft.

These companies do not have access to the Taxi-park and are not allowed to wait for customers at the airport parking lots. It is important to find out where the pickup location will be as this will be depending on your driver and your arrival terminal.

The airport has an official VTC pickup area but in most cases, your driver will not be waiting for you there, so it’s essential to agree upon the pickup location with them!

As an example, if you choose Uber, the pick-up location will most likely be at the “arrivals drop-off” areas of the terminal.

When you arrive at the airport, you can take advantage of the free wifi available everywhere to book your driver.

If you wish to book in advance according to your landing time, consider the time required to collect your luggage (usually quite slow in CDG), as your driver will not be able to wait for you forever!

Prices are subject to change depending on the time and date of your arrival, but will generally be a bit lower than Parisian cabs. Feel free to compare prices on the various platforms to find the best deal.

Pros of Using Uber/FreeNow to get from CDG to Paris

  • You’ll have an idea of what your journey will cost you before booking the ride.
  • It offers various payment methods including paying online since you can connect your Paypal and credit card details in advance.

Cons of Using Uber/FreeNow to get from CDG to Paris

  • If you travel during rush hour, you’ll definitely be stuck in traffic which is never a great feeling when you’ve just arrived in a new city.
  • It can take a while to locate your driver since these forms of taxis don’t have a specific station.
  • It will not be possible to use if for some reason you can’t connect to the internet.
  • Your driver can choose to cancel your ride at any time. This is becoming notorious with Uber but FreeNow seems to have reliable drivers.
  • Not the cheapest option among all the forms of airport transportation from CDG to Paris.

5. how to get from CDG airport to Paris By RoisyBus (shuttle)

best way to get from Charles de Gaulle to Paris by bus.

The bus offers an interesting combination of affordability and comfort. If you have little luggage but don’t want to spend money on a private car, this could be the best way to get from Charles de Gaulle to Paris.

In my opinion, it’s a great balance between Taxi and Train as long as you are sure that your plane will land within the bus’ operating hours.

Obviously, just like a private car, the bus is subject to the traffic situation on the road. If you land during the rush hours, you will have to show some patience! Note that free Wifi is available on the bus if you get bored in traffic.

The RoissyBus connects the airport to the Opera bus station (right next to the metro station) ideally located in the center of the capital and close to the famous department stores.

Tickets can be purchased for 13,70€ directly on board from the driver (cash and cards are accepted) or from any RATP automatic ticket machine at the airport.

A few things to note for a seamless trip

Beware that the “Bus Direct” company that used to operate between Paris and CDG stopped running since the C*vid crisis.

There is also a possibility to take the regular city bus via lines 350 and 351. I don’t recommend this because it takes way too long to reach Paris (city buses are quite slow and make a lot of stops) and I know that time is very precious when you are on vacation!

And if your flight arrival time is during the wee hours of the night and you still want to take a bus, you can opt for the Noctilien bus line, (N140 et N143). These buses operate daily from 1:00 am to 4:00 am and 00:02 am to 4:32 am and they run every 30 minutes and 1 hour respectively and tickets go for around 8€. The only downside is that they only stop at Gare de l’Est.

If you want to go directly to Disney, the Magic Shuttle from terminal 2 connects the airport to Disney and its hotels for 23€ per adult and 10€ per child. You’ll have to book from here in advance.

  • It is the most economical way to get from Charles de Gaulle to Paris.
