1. Île aux Cygnes

The biggest and main Paris Statue of Liberty replica is on the human-made island of Île aux Cygnes.

Measuring just about one kilometer end-to-end in length (2,789 ft), Île aux Cygnes (known as Isle of the Swans in English) is small but packed with tree-lined walkways, a nice outdoor recreational area with free facilities including exercise machines and a climbing wall, and the island’s star attractions — a quarter-scale Statue of Liberty replica.

The bronze statue was gifted by the American expatriate community living in Paris to France in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

The statue measures a whopping 11.50 meters (37.9 ft) tall and if you’re wondering why it’s facing West, it’s because the designer wanted it to face New York where the big sister sits — even though at first it was facing East to look towards the Eiffel Tower.

You can catch a glimpse of this Paris Statue of Liberty replica by planning a visit to Île aux Cygnes, or from nearby bridges like Pont Mirabeau and Pont de Grenelle.

The replica was created and gifted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi himself, (the French sculptor who designed the real Statue of Liberty) to Musée du Luxembourg in 1900 where it stayed until 1906.

For decades since 1906, the statue stood proud in the Luxembourg Gardens, but after vandalism attempts and the theft of its gilt flame in 2011, the authorities decided to move it to the Musee d’Orsay in 2012 for better preservation where it still is, so keep an eye out for Lady Liberty when you pass through the museum’s entrance!

3. Luxembourg Gardens

After the above Statue of Liberty replica was moved to the Orsay museum, a new bronze replica was constructed to take up its space in Jardin du Luxembourg.

Tucked away on the western edge of the Luxembourg Gardens, looking for it can be quite a treasure hunt since the garden is so huge, and many other statues are scattered across the park.

And while there, you should also pay attention to the American oak tree which was planted behind the statue in memory of the victims of 9/11, adding a touch of extra importance to it.

4. Musée des Arts et Métiers

Musée des Arts et Métiers used to be home to two Statue of Liberty replicas — one located just outside the museum, and one inside!

In fact, the Statue of Liberty outside the museum was made from the original statue’s plaster model, and this statue was the first replica of the Statue of Liberty. It was donated to the museum by Bartholdi’s widow upon his death.

As of today, one of the replicas, specifically the one that stood outside the museum was taken down and shipped to the USA in 2021 with a quick stop in New York where the big sister sits, and later to the French ambassador’s residence in Washington where it is expected to stay for 10 years (until 2031) and later back to Paris.

However, you can still see the remaining statues inside the museum.

If you enter the museum, you’ll even get to go through an educational display of the original statue plaster and small models representing the different stages of Lady Liberty’s construction!

However, to gain access to this museum, you’ll need to purchase this entry ticket beforehand.

5. Place de l’Alma/Place Diana

You may easily miss this golden replica at the northern end of the Pont de I’Alma at Place de l’Alma/ Place Diana in the 8th arrondissement.

Instead of a full replica of the Statue of Liberty, this one is a 1:1 scale replica of the Flame of Liberty (Flamme de la Liberté).

Erected in 1989, the gold flame was gifted to Paris by the International Herald Tribune on behalf of donors across the world to celebrate the friendship between France and America. It was gifted on the occasion this English language newspaper made 100 years in Paris.

It measures 3.5 metres (11.4 ft) in height and is made of copper and covered in real gold leaf!

Another thing worth noting is that the replica is incidentally above the Pont de l’Alma car tunnel, a place where Princess Diana’s car crashed in 1997 and has since then become an unofficial, citizen-driven memorial of the late Princess of Wales.

The public square was eventually officially named Place Diana in 2019. You can often find flowers and other small mementos at the statue, left by people who head over to pay respects to the late Princess.

6. On the Seine River

Hidden in Place Michel-Debré in the 6th arrondissement, this mini bronze statue that’s only about the size of an adult’s hand cannot be spotted in plain sight.

Instead, you’ll have to find the popular Le Centaure sculpture that depicts a half-man, half-horse figure and get close to spot the mini Statue of Liberty replica hidden in the larger sculpture’s chest armor.
