Why Should You Visit Paris In April?
You may be asking yourself, why April? Why not visit Paris in January, October, July, or any other month? To answer your question, below are some of the reasons for traveling to Paris in April.
Fewer Crowds
Being one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, it’s not surprising that Paris receives a swarm of tourists, especially during the peak season in the summer which means wasting hours in queues especially if you don’t know how to skip the long lines in Paris.
But in April which is also considered one of the shoulder months, the crowds are fewer so you can enjoy some of the popular attractions without spending hours in queues.
![Cherry blossom season in Paris](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/metro-cherry-blossom-767x1024.jpg)
Lower rates
Fewer tourists mean lower rates on most things! Yes, the principle of demand and supply applies here as well.
Hotels usually lower their rates in April compared to say June or July and so do the Airline companies. So traveling to Paris in April will mean enjoying lower rates.
Paris is Blooming in April
If you need just one reason to visit Paris in April, then you can’t go past the beautiful scenery. In April, this is when the cherry trees are in full bloom, other flowers like tulips also bloom and the various gardens of Paris become all-around beautiful.
The Beautiful Weather
Unlike summer which presents extremely hot temperatures that result in heat waves at some point or winter months which can get extremely cold, April offers mild temperatures.
You can rock your jeans or even a nice cute dress on other days! Walks are also more enjoyable during this time of the year and chances of rain become lower compared to the previous month of March.
Now that you know why you should visit Paris at this time of the year, there is some practical information you need to know to plan your trip well.
From what to expect in terms of the weather, what to wear, where to stay, and all the relevant general info.
Weather in Paris in April
![Sacre Coeur](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Sacre-Coeur-steps-and-garden-768x1024.jpg)
Paris starts getting warmer and warmer by the day. The temperature in Paris in April oscillates between 7°C /44 °F and 16°C /61 °F with some slight chances of even reaching 20 °C / 68 °F; the highest ever recorded was 26 °C /79 °F. However, the average stays around 11°C /52 °F.
While daytime becomes warmer, nighttime remains a bit chilly so pack your clothes accordingly.
There are also chances of rain in Paris during this time of the year and it’s usually expected to rain for 9 days but rarely goes beyond 2.2 mm, so you should be fine with just an umbrella.
One of the impressive things about April in Paris is how the daylight increases drastically compared to the previous month from an average of 5 hours of sun to 8.
And if you’re wondering if it snows in Paris in April; the simple answer is No! Paris rarely gets snow even in winter so it’s unheard of to get any during April.
In brief, April is a spring month so you should expect spring temperatures.
things to do in Paris in April
Since this post is specific, I will be sticking to only the activities that can be done in April.
Of course, you can still do other things during your visit but this post is meant to shed light on only the things to do in Paris in April. For a list of other general things to do, you can check out my complete bucket list for Paris.
1. See The cherry blossoms
![Seeing the cherry blossoms is one of the things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/me-chasing-cherry-blossoms-768x1024.jpg)
There is nothing as beautiful as looking at the different blooming pink flowers of the various trees. During April in Paris, the city transforms into an “insta city” by providing beautiful photo backdrops that will make your entire Insta community jealous!
Whether it is on the trees that are dotted around the streets of Paris or the beautiful parks, seeing the cherry blossom is one of the best things to do in Paris in April.
Some of the places to see the Cherry blossom in Paris include the areas of the Eiffel Tower at Champs de Mars, Mail de Bievre, the Luxembourg Gardens, Jardin des Plantes, and of course the Trocadero Gardens where a mishmash of beautiful colored flowers will feast your eyes and mostly your camera.
You can check out my detailed list of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Paris – from known places to hidden gems.
Pro tip* If you want to beat the crowds since everyone comes out to see the blossoms, you’re better off either visiting early in the morning or late in the evening and you might just get yourself a beautiful cherry blossom photo without ten thousand people in it. Also, weekdays will be less crowded than weekends.
2. Have Fun at La Foire du Trône
![Having fun at La Foire du Trône is one of the fun things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/me-at-the-funfair-768x1024.jpg)
Though it started as a small funfair in 957, today, Foire du Trône has grown to be the biggest funfair in the country and no doubt the oldest.
The funfair happens every year in April at Pelouse de Reuilly in Bois de Vincennes where both kids and adults gather to have fun, scream their lungs out on various rides, eat all they can, and enjoy various attractions.
If you love having fun, this is one thing you shouldn’t miss while in Paris in April. And don’t worry if you’re scared of extreme and thrilling rides, there is something for everyone.
From something as simple as the targeting games where you can win small prizes (needless to say I won 2 teddy bears from these games) to thrilling rides like Starlight that take you up as high as 65 feet while flipping and rotating — prepare your voice for the loudest scream ever.
The funfair usually starts at midday to 11 pm but it goes up to 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays so, you’ll have enough time to enjoy several attractions.
The best part is that it’s free to enter; you just have to pay for the specific rides or attractions you want.
3. Stroll Through the Various Parks and Gardens
![Strolling through the various Parks and Gardens is one of teh things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jardin-des-plantes-cherry-blossom-1024x768.jpg)
Paris has several gardens whose beauty climaxes during April. Besides the cherry blossom trees, other flowers also put on a beautiful display of different colors that will excite anyone.
While there are many parks in Paris, some are more beautiful than others during this time of the year.
I’d recommend going to Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Plantes which is my favorite park in Paris, Jardin des Tuileries near the Louvre, and another unknown but beautiful garden to gaze at with well-maintained and colorful flowers at Square du Palais-Galliera.
But don’t just stop at strolling around, you can pack a picnic and enjoy a Parisian picnic. You can read my complete guide on how to plan a picnic in Paris if you choose to go to one.
4. Take Part in the Paris Marathon
![Taking part in Paris Marathon is one of the things to do in April in Paris](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/paris-marathon-1024x768.jpg)
You may not be able to run in the Olympics but you get to run in one of the most beautiful cities and one of the most beautiful avenues in the world if you participate in the Paris Marathon.
Starting at the Champs Elysées through Paris’ cute streets, the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris which stretches 42km receives tens of thousands of runners from all over the world including both professional and hobby runners.
It’s one of the most famous marathons in the world; so you’ll be participating in something the entire world is looking at.
So get your running shoes ready and you never know you might be the next winner.
Pro tip* If you don’t plan on joining the Paris marathon, you may still want to check the official website to see which streets will be closed off so that you plan your sightseeing day accordingly.
5. Splash some colors at the Paris Color Run
![Splashing some colors at the Paris Color Run is one of the fun things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Paris-Color-Run-1024x768.jpg)
If the Paris marathon is too long for you or it’s just too serious for your taste, then I have something exciting for you; the Paris color run.
Unlike the previous one which is all about winning, Paris color run is all about having fun while splashing colors at each other.
For a distance of just 5km starting at Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, you’ll be splashed with 5 different colors! Let loose, dance, throw some color, and laugh as much as you because this run is all about having fun.
At the end of the run, runners are treated to a round of non-stop music dupped Finisher Festival. If you love running, having fun, and music, this is one activity you shouldn’t miss when in Paris in April.
6. Celebrate Easter In Paris
![Celebrating Easter is one of the best things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Square-du-Palais-Galliera-908x1024.jpg)
Just like on other holidays, Paris is known to go all out when it comes to celebrating and Easter is no exception!
Besides the Easter services and concerts in Parisian churches, there are various French Easter traditions and one thing you’d want to do is to taste all the Easter chocolate you can!
Most chocolate shops will switch to selling Easter-themed chocolate while supermarkets will also be overflowing with the same.
And if you’re traveling with kids, there are a lot of Easter Egg hunts you can take them to in various parks like Parc des Buttes Chaumont, Jardin du Palais Royal, the Paris Zoo, Parc André Citroën, and many others. Some of these hunts are free but some could go up to 15 Euros.
You should, however, note that in some years, Easter falls in March!
7. Take a Day Trip to Disneyland Paris
![Taking a day trip to Disneyland Paris is one of the fun things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Disneyland-Paris-flowers-768x1024.jpg)
While still on the subject of celebrating Easter in Paris, you may want to use this time to take a day trip to Disneyland Paris as they usually stay open and they also prepare some Easter specials.
Of course, this time of the year will be very crowded since it’s a holiday but if you don’t mind the crowds, I recommend not missing it.
It’s also a good time to visit Disney as most of the places in Paris stay closed so it’s great to add it to your Paris itinerary so that you use your short time in Paris well.
However, you’ll need to book your Disney ticket in advance here. Alternatively, you can book this 1-day flexible ticket that lets you visit any time you want within 1 year.
If you’re not sure how to get there, I have a dedicated article on how to get from CDG airport to Disneyland Paris and don’t forget to take into account these Disneyland Paris tips for an amazing trip.
And if your heart is set on dining at a particular restaurant in Disney, be sure to make reservations in advance.
8. Enjoy the Musical Fountain Shows at Versailles Palace
![Enjoying the Musical Fountain Shows at Versailles Palace is one of the cool things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Musical-Fountain-Shows-at-Versailles-Palace-1024x768.jpg)
Versailles Palace is one of the most beautiful castles near Paris. Though you can visit it any time of the year, it’s at the beginning of April that it becomes even more exciting as that’s when the musical fountain shows begin.
With water features splashing rhythmically to baroque music, these shows excite both the young and the old.
Daytime shows run from 10 am to 7 pm and nighttime shows run from 8.30 pm to 11.05 pm but only on Saturday.
Since this is a popular show, I recommend booking your ticket here in advance to fully enjoy it. This ticket includes both the music fountain show and the entrance to the palace itself.
Not sure how to get there? This article on how to get from Paris to Versailles Palace will guide you.
9. Take a Leisurely Stroll around the city
![Taking a leisurly stroll around the city is one of the cool things to do in Paris in April](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grand-palais-cherry-blossom-768x1024.jpg)
April in Paris is honestly the best time of the year to walk around “aimlessly” with no real agenda except to enjoy the beauty of the city.
The temperatures are not too low nor too high to suffer the coldness or the heatwave but it’s just right. And like they say, Paris is best discovered on foot and April is the ideal time.
You can walk along the areas of the Seine, the Notre Dame Cathedral area, the Champs Elys Avenue, or even head to Montmartre — this is the perfect way to learn more about the city while taking in the beauty of the blooming trees.
However, don’t forget to download a maps app to know where to take the train/bus if you’re ready to head back home.

What to wear in Paris in April
![Moulin rouge in one of the most Instagrammable places in Paris](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/me-at-Moulin-rouge_-768x1024.jpg)
Since Paris’s April temperatures change between warm and chilly, I’d recommend packing clothes that cater to both!
Long-Sleeved Turtleneck: I love this Long-Sleeved Turtleneck top since I can wear it with just a leather jacket when the weather is mild and it can also work as a base layer when I feel really cold. And yes, I can also wear it as a stand-alone top! It works like a gem!
Cute Floral Top: Paris in April is all about flowers and I can’t think of a better top to bring out the vibrant season than this cute floral top.
Leather Jacket: For days you don’t need a thick jacket, this leather jacket will come in handy. But if you’re not a fan of leather jackets, you can opt for this bomber jacket instead.
Scarf: Since April is usually not that cold, you can skip the scarf but if you’re prone to getting cold easily, then I recommend taking this scarf.
Winter Jacket: As I mentioned earlier, sometimes it gets to 7°C /44 °F but the feeling is like 4 °C/ 39 °F. For such days, you’ll need your winter jacket with you.
Woolen socks: I like these Merino wool socks as they’re warm and they keep my feet dry if even they’re worn the entire day. Plus, they’re ankle socks so they won’t be visible in sneakers.
Cute Dress: Let your Paris photos stand out in a cute dress like this one with the backdrop of the blooming flowers.
Jeans: A pair of jeans is a must regardless of when you travel to Paris.
Comfortable walking shoes: Since April is a good time to explore Paris on foot, you’d need to pack comfortable walking shoes like these if you don’t want to say “I Eiffel in Paris” — Yes I just used one of my favorite Puns about Paris. Alternatively, you can opt for these boots!
These are some of the clothes to wear in Paris in April but you can check out my complete list of what to wear in Paris in Spring to get details of everything you’ll need.

![Packing the right essentials is one of the tips for having a great time on a weekend in Paris](https://dreamsinparis.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/packing-for-paris-1024x707.jpg)
On top of the above clothes, there are a few things you shouldn’t forget when traveling to Paris in April. Below is what to pack for Paris in April.
An umbrella: With the average number of days of rain we looked at earlier, you’ll need to carry a windproof umbrella like this one.
A crossbody bag: I like this crossbody bag as it’s cute and big enough to hold all the day’s essentials while roaming around Paris but if you prefer a backpack, this one from Osprey will do.
You can read my complete Paris packing list to know all the essentials not to leave behind.
Now that you know all the tips to plan your trip, let’s look at the unique things to do in Paris in April.
